If your plans change and you would like a late check-out, we may be able to accommodate this for a small extra cost (depending on our cleaner’s schedule and timing of next guest’s arrival). Let us know via the Airbnb app, and we’ll do our best to arrange it for you.
At the end of your stay, kindly refer to the following check-out instructions:

Throw trash away: Trash can be left in the kitchen trash can; if you run out of room, place add'l trash bags in the outdoor trash bin at the rear of the house

Lock up: Close any open windows and lock the sliding door; lock the front door on your way out using your unique passcode (last 4 digits of phone #)
Additional requests: We kindly ask that you wash all dirty dishes (leaving items in sink will cause copper to oxidize and tarnish)
-
To enter the cabin, you will need your unique access code which will be the last 4 digits of the phone number associated with your reservation. You should already have received this during check-in. Check your messages in the Airbnb app to find the code and enter it into the keypad on the front door.
As you come and go, please lock the door using this same passcode. To make sure the lock seats correctly, push the door in lightly as you enter the code. -
The cabin is equipped with Starlink high-speed internet which is perfect for streaming audio or video content or dialing into Zoom calls for working remotely. You should already have received the network and password during check-in. Check your messages in the Airbnb app to find these details.
-
Please use the silver spout to the right of the kitchen faucet to enjoy clean filtered drinking water (via reverse osmosis filtering). We recommend you use this spout to fill ice trays and coffee pot as well.
Please note: the water dispenser on the front of the fridge is NOT filtered.
-
During your stay, please dispose of all food trash in the kitchen trash can. Our cleaning crew will take trash out between cleanings. If you run out of room, please tie up and place any full bags in the outdoor trash can located near the back of the house. Extra trash bags can be found under the kitchen sink.
There is a small recycling bin on the floor next to the coffee pot for empty plastic bottles, glass bottles, and cans. In Maine, these containers may be returned for deposit. Feel free to take with you or leave for our cleaners to return. No cardboard, food trash, or other materials in the recycling bin please.
How to use…
-
Feel free to use the oven or gas stove cooktop as needed. Please be sure to turn the burner/oven off after each use and never leave unattended. If you spill any food on stove surface, please wipe up after use.
Our oven settings can be a bit complicated, so we’ve created a quick guide to give you more detailed instructions and help troubleshoot common issues.

There are two AC units in the cabin, one in the kitchen and one in the master bedroom. The units are both set to “auto mode.” To adjust the temperature to your liking, simply increase or decrease the temperature on each unit using the wall-mounted remotes. We also have two ceiling fans in the kitchen and master bedroom. Fan remotes are mounted next to AC remotes and include options to increase or decrease fan speed and turn overhead lights on/off.
-
Our 4KTV is equipped with Roku which is pre-set to “guest mode.” This will allow you to login to any of your personal streaming accounts while setting a date to automatically log you out of those accounts at the end of your stay. Simply follow the prompts on the screen to easily sign in and enjoy your favorite subscription services.
The remote is located on the mantel under the TV. You can also lower the TV to a more comfortable viewing position by gently pulling the tabs below the screen down and towards you. To return TV to original position, simply push tabs upwards and towards the wall.
-
Feel free to use our record player, which can also be used as a Bluetooth speaker. To use as a speaker, please be sure Bluetooth is enabled on your personal device. Set the record player to “BT” (“Bluetooth”) and you should see a new Bluetooth device come up on your phone (“VTA-240B”). Choose this device and stream music as usual.
-
To turn the fireplace on, simply point the wall-mounted remote towards the fireplace and press the blue button ONCE. You’ll hear the pilot click on, then several seconds later, the flames will ignite.
Do not push the blue button more than once while attempting to turn the fireplace on. This will cause the fireplace to go into “safety mode,” and it will no longer be available for use without manually resetting.
When done, simply point the remote towards the fireplace and press the blue button once more to turn the fireplace off. Please be sure to return the remote to the wall mount when done.
Important safety notes:Please be sure the vestibule door is open if the fireplace is on.
Please also make sure there are no objects resting against the fireplace grill on either side of the fireplace (living room and vestibule).
When fireplace is in use, do not lower the TV over the mantel (please keep in original position above the mantel).
Never leave a fire unattended and do not leave children unattended around a fire.
Do not leave fire on while you sleep or if you leave the cabin.
-
You’re welcome to use the outdoor gas fire pit on our deck. There’s an automatic starter (no matches or lighter required).
To turn on, push and hold igniter button to create sparks. While holding the igniter button, push and turn the control knob to the “LOW” position (counterclockwise). Once the burner is lit, you can release the control knob and igniter.
To turn off, push and turn the control knob to the “OFF” position (clockwise). Please wait for fire pit to cool completely before placing cover back on.
Important safety notes:
Please only use the provided fire pit; no fires permitted anywhere else on the property.
Never leave a fire unattended and do not leave children unattended around a fire.
Do not leave fire on while you sleep or if you leave the cabin.
Please do not place anything in the fire (no trash, wood, debris, or other objects), and do not use the fire pit to cook any food. The fire pit should be used for entertainment only.
-
We have a propane grill available for your use on the deck. Please turn propane off when not in use. Do not leave grill unattended when lit. Please clean up after yourself to avoid attracting animals or pests.
-
You also have access to our 6-person hot tub located on the deck. Please shower before use and do not wear lotion or sunscreen while in the tub.
To open cover, first lift upwards from the steps towards the back of the tub folding the cover in half. Then once you’re in the tub, lift the second half and it will tuck behind the tub, kind of like a convertible top. When not in use, please keep top cover over the tub to keep out leaves and debris.
The hot tub has two main controls: “lights” and “jets” that allow you to cycle through different settings. Please be sure to turn off both jets and lights when you’re not using the tub.
The temperature is locked at 101 which is optimal for hot tub use. Please do not attempt to adjust the temp.
Important safety notes:
The top is secure, but not locked; please do not leave children unattended around hot tub; parents are responsible for monitoring children in/around hot tub at all times.
Only children who are potty trained should be allowed in hot tub.
Please only use plastic cups on the deck and near the hot tub (plastic cups provided in kitchen cabinet, top shelf).
-
We have laundry machines available for use in our basement if needed. Laundry detergent and dryer sheets provided. Please also note the ceiling height in the basement is low! Use caution.
Sightseeing
-
The Blue Hill Peninsula offers miles of shoreline and interior marshes, ponds, and nature preserves—perfect for hiking, fishing, kayaking, and sightseeing. Across the peninsula, you’ll find historic towns and landmarks, picturesque lighthouses and islands for exploring, as well as quaint bistros, shops, and artist galleries to tour. And of course you’ll also find an abundance of fresh, local seafood—lobsters, oysters, scallops, haddock, and Maine crab are all harvested right off the coast.
See our Blue Hill Guidebook on Airbnb for restaurant and sightseeing recommendations.
-
Acadia National Park is a magical place located on Mount Desert Island (MDI), which is approximately 45 minutes from our cabin. The park contains the tallest mountain on the Atlantic Coast—Cadillac Mountain, as well as rocky beaches, lakes, streams, wetlands, forests, meadows, and coastlines that provide a wide diversity of plants, animals, and wildlife.
Our favorite hikes include scrambling up to the top of Mt. Penobscot, Mt. Pemetic, and Mt. Sargent. Park loop road makes it easy to traverse the park and take in some of the scenic overlooks. The historic carriage road system is great for biking across the park. There are many bike rental options in Bar Harbor, ME (we highly recommend booking in advance if you plan to rent a bike!).
Please refer to the National Park Service website for details on vehicle registration and park access. Check out our Acadia & MDI Guidebook on Airbnb for more recommendations.
-
Pierce Pond is a freshwater pond located at the entrance to our road (about 1 mile from the cabin). There’s a boat landing at the outlet with a handful of parking spots. The pond’s abundant shallow, weedy areas constitute ideal habitat for warmwater gamefish—including largemouth bass, white perch, and alewives. It’s also home to loons, herons, and bald eagles. A peaceful spot to enjoy paddle boarding, kayaking, fishing, and more.
Please refer to the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife to secure the proper permits and licenses for fishing. To rent a kayak, canoe, or paddleboard, we recommend the Blue Hill Activity Shop.
